Five rising stars from Arsenal’s Youth Academy
2. Ainsley Maitland-Niles – CB/WB/CM
Making it to number 2 of the best young players coming through the Arsenal ranks is Maitland-Niles. The youngster is clearly fancied by Wenger. Shipped out on loan to Ipswich Town in the 2015/16 season clocking an impressive 30 first team appearances, and already boasting appearances in the the Premier League and Champions League.
AMN was a member of the England U20s side which won the World cup in South Korea, beating Venezuela in the final and a regular for the Arsenal U23s. His versatility is recognised by Wenger who has seen him play in both wing back positions, Central midfield and even in the wide forward positions. Strong in the tackle and keen runner off the ball. This could be his break through year into the first team especially with Arsenal’s bloated fixture list in Europe and the Milk Cup.
Earmarked as Arsenal starlet and a potential club captain.
Player style: A touch of the Paul Davis with his passing, and Rocky Rocastles aggression.
1. Reiss Nelson – Wide forward / Wingback
Without questions Arsenal’s most valuable asset coming through the youth ranks. 17-year-old Nelson has been rightly getting rave reviews over the past couple of months thanks to his energetic, skilful and frankly refreshing display as right wing back during Arsenal’s pre-season tour. Nelson is as skilful as they get but surprisingly strong, he’s quick feet, eye for a ball and not to mention his pace has had Arsenal fans screaming to get a first team run out. An undoubtedly clever footballer who is certain to feature for Arsenal this season. With the potential sale of Oxlade-Chamberlain on the horizon he may get his opportunity sooner rather than later.
Player Style: The closest Arsenal are ever going to get to Neymar…
